Dance Class Evaluation Form

To apply for advancement to a higher-level dance class, please follow these steps below

Register for the class initially recommended to secure your spot.
Select the class you wish to be evaluated for from the dropdown menu.
Create a video demonstration that fulfills the specified entry requirements for that class.
Upload your video to a video hosting service, such as YouTube or Vimeo.
Submit the completed evaluation form

Mini Ballet II students should have basic positions mastered with matching port de bras. (ie: First position with arms in first). Level II Minis are expected to showcase the following skills in center:

Chassè
Skips across the floor
Boureé’s
Balance in passé
Sauté/Grand jeté across the floor
4 Sauté in first, 4 Sauté in seconde

Junior Ballet II students are able to memorize short combinations with minimal error. These dancers have an understanding of the flow of barre (ie: Plié, tendu, jeté, rond de jambe, fondu, frappe, grand battement). Level II Juniors are expected to showcase the following skills in center:

Hold leg at 90 degrees in each direction for at least 3 counts.
Balance comfortably in relevé in:
- First, seconde, fourth, fifth (sous sous) position
- Passe
Single pirouette en dehors
Ability to execute the following jumps with rotation/turn-out in:
- Echappé
- Glissade
- Assemblé
- Grand jeté
- Pas de chat

Teen/Senior Ballet II students are able to understand and execute most ballet steps and terminology. These dancers are working on mastering pirouettes, elevated extensions, and smooth transitions. Dancers should be able to learn 16+ counts of combinations quickly, with limited error. Dancers expected to showcase the following skills in center:

Hold leg at 90 degrees in each direction for at least 3 counts.
Balance comfortably in relevé in:
- First, seconde, fourth, fifth (sous sous) position
- Passe
Ability to execute the following jumps with rotation/turn-out in:
- Echappé
- Glissade
- Assemblé
- Grand jeté
- Pas de chat
Double pirouette en dehors
Multiple fouetté turns

Dancers in the highest level of tap at ROOTS have an extensive understanding of tap vocabulary and the ability to distinguish a wide variety of rhythms and time signatures, while learning at a quick pace. More intricate patterns will be introduced involving paradiddles, rhythm turns, time steps, firecrackers, swapping shuffles, etc., by using contemporary choreography as well as traditional choruses. Dancers are expected to be able to showcase the following skills:

Flying Shuffles/Firecrackers
Swapping Shuffles (Front + Side)
Syncopated Pullbacks, Drums, Wings (both sides)
3 Single-footed Pullbacks, 1 Single-foot Drum (Phrase) - Able to do on both feet
Rhythm Turn 4-count, Rhythm Turn with Flap Shuffle Pullback, Shuffle Step before 4 count (both sides)

Pre-Pointe students have a serious attention to detail and focus when preparing for the hardest aspect of ballet: Dancing on your toes. There should be no time estimate expectation of promotion to dancing en pointe. Dancer promotion to Pointe I is at the teacher's discretion and achieve this at different paces. Pre-Pointe dancers are expected to showcase the following skills in center:

Clear articulation of flexed, pointed, and demi stretch of the foot.
Balance in relevé for 8 counts in first, second, fourth, and sous sous positions.
Tendu exercise (ie: Point, flex, point, back to first - en croix)

Pointe I students are working on basic mastery of barre steps in pointe shoes. Pointe I dancers are expected to showcase the following skills in center:

Clear articulation of flexed, pointed, and demi stretch of the foot.
Balance in relevé for 8 counts in first, second, fourth, and sous sous positions.
Tendu exercise (ie: Point, flex, point, back to first - en croix)
Pique to balance (coupe or fifth)
Fondu to 90 degrees en croix
Echappé
Boureé

Pointe II students are working at the most advanced level en pointe. Dancers are expected to showcase the following skills in center:

Clear articulation of flexed, pointed, and demi stretch of the foot.
Balance in relevé for at least 8 counts in first, second, fourth, and sous sous positions.
Tendu exercise (ie: Point, flex, point, back to first - en croix)
Mastery of pique, fondu, échappé, and boureé
Double pirouette + pirouettes from fifth
Pique turns across the floor
Changement hops en pointe
Balloné (Front-side-and-back)
Fouettés en pointe
