Mya Ray

Voice Mentor

About

Mya was born in Franklin, TN and raised by a family that loves music and all things Disney.

Throughout her life Mya’s dad has been incredibly influential to her music career. He would constantly play piano through the house, and he was always involved in a local band. This early exposure to music led Mya to find her love of singing as a form of personal expression. She has since been studying voice for the past 10 years.

Mya was a finalist in the Sing Your Heart Out vocal competition and performed at the Ryman Auditorium in 2017 and 2019. In high school, Mya also found a love for musical theater where she performed in shows such as Jekyll and Hyde, Mamma Mia, and All Shook Up. Her senior year Mya earned membership to the International Thespian Society. With a background in a cappella music, musical theater and pop music, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Music in Music Industry at Middle Tennessee State University. At MTSU Mya became a classically trained vocalist. She spent her time singing for professional choirs such as Schola Cantorum, and she earned exclusive membership to the national music honor society of Pi Kappa Lambda. Finally, she had the honor of learning the art of a cappella jazz from 10-time Grammy Award winner Dr. Cedric Dent.

In her free time, Mya enjoys singing with a local 80s cover band alongside her dad. In July of 2023 Mya had the opportunity to take the stage in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Martin, TN. Mya is passionate about using music as an outlet to express emotion, and she loves getting to share that experience with an audience.

Mya’s Teaching Philosophy: “My teaching philosophy is about teaching anyone how to be confident in sharing their love of music with others, and guiding them to channel their emotions into an experience that an audience can connect with.”
